Class Policies & FAQ

CANCELLATION POLICY

We understand that things come up and plans change, please let us know as soon as possible if you won’t be able to make it to a class in which you have enrolled.

Any class will be refunded in full if canceled before 48 hours prior to the start of the class. A 50% refund will be given if canceled within 48-hours of the start of the class, however, day-of cancellations will receive the 50% refunded as an account credit. No-call-no-shows will result in no refund. Due to the nature of the courses, once the class starts, no refunds can be made.

In the event that a class does not meet a minimum enrollment, or has to be canceled for any reason on behalf of MAKE or the instructor, full refunds will be made.

To cancel, please email learn@makebhm.com.

ADVERSE WEATHER
If weather conditions cause unsafe travel conditions, classes will be rescheduled. If you’re enrolled in a class that must be postponed but unable to make it to the rescheduled session for any reason, full refunds will be made. We tend to follow Birmingham City Schools when making weather decisions, but will always be in contact with schedule changes.

Class FAQ

Q: How do I get to MAKE?

A: In case you haven't been to our space before, we are located at 4000 3rd Ave S. Our entrance is the orange door in the courtyard, under the large MAKE sign that can be seen from the parking lot. If the lot is full, overflow parking can be found across the 3rd Ave S at Redeemer Church or street parking around the block.

Q: Help, I’m stuck at the train tracks. How do I get around?

A: The trains on 41st St S, between 1st Ave N and 1st Ave S, will park frequently. We recommend approaching MAKE from 3rd or 4th Ave S - if you are coming from downtown, you can use the 35th St S bridge or continue towards Woodlawn to avoid the train.

Q : Do I need to bring any materials for my class?

A: With a few exceptions, MAKE provides all materials necessary for each course's curriculum. Depending on the class, you may need to bring a reference image or may optionally provide your own supplies. As this varies per class, we send out emails to each student detailing what requirements there may be.

Q: What should I wear to class?

A: Please wea closed toed shoes within our space and clothing that you are okay with getting a little clay/paint/printing ink on! Dress weather appropriate for classes within our lobby and ceramics studio as these spaces are not temperature controlled and may run cool/hot depending on the season. Light layers that you can easily roll up your sleeves are a great idea.

Q: I’d like to join one of the shared studios, do I need experience before diving in?

A: Yes! Both our ceramics studio and print studio require that members have some background knowledge before diving in solo. Whether that experience is from us, another studio or a college course. If the last time you worked with clay was in summer camp, we suggest taking a refresher course. We offer both introductory handbuilding and throwing classes in ceramics. For those interested in printmaking, we recommend taking a project based one-on-one class.

Q: What is the best way to find out about classes?

A: Join our newsletter! We typically only send out one email a month when classes for the upcoming month are open for enrollment.
