Wax Carving for Jewelry

  • MAKEbhm 4000 3rd Avenue South Birmingham, AL, 35222 United States (map)

Thursdays, July 9 - 30*, 6 - 8pm *second two classes subject to shift back one week pending casting schedule.

Learn how to make jewelry through the process of loss wax casting. In this class students will learn how to work with hard carving wax and soft sculpting wax to make jewelry models for casting. It will not cover the casting process itself. Instead, students will focus on the fun and creative processes of carving and sculpting their ideas in wax and then send the completed pieces to a casting house offsite to be cast into their metal of choice. The completed casting will be returned the following week and students will learn hand finishing techniques to complete their work.

All materials and tools will be provided, however you can add on a tool kit to keep if you’d like. The goal of this class will be setting you up with the skills to be able to continue carving at your house/studio.
Optional Tool Kit includes:
Wax Carving Pen
Double Sided File
Mini files
Wax carvers set (dental tools)
Digital Calipers
Jewelry Saw
Fine saw blades
Dividing Calipers

Please Note: an additional materials fee will be collected for casting, pricing will be based on weight and material cast, pieces will likely range from X-X, with precious metals costing more.
